From Sweetness to Success: Aiza’s Sweets Journey of Growth

July 14, 2026

Every successful enterprise begins with a simple idea. For Aiza’s Sweets in Pampanga, that idea was making homemade delicacies from a backyard kitchen. More than two decades later, the enterprise has evolved into a thriving food manufacturer employing nearly 90 workers, serving local and export markets, and earning recognition as the 2025 Productivity Olympics Regional Winner.

Founded in 2000 by Lucia Miranda, Aiza’s Sweets was born out of a desire to provide a better future for her family. While working at the Commission on Audit, Miranda decided to venture into food manufacturing, starting with pastillas before expanding into cashew marzipan, tarts, and other specialty products. Guided by her passion for food and a commitment to quality, the business steadily grew from seven employees to a workforce of almost ninety.

Growth, however, also brought new responsibilities. As production expanded, the company had to comply with increasingly complex requirements from government agencies, including food safety standards, labor regulations, and business compliance. Rather than viewing these as obstacles, Miranda embraced them as necessary steps toward building a stronger and more credible enterprise. Together with her team, Aiza’s Sweets invested in better systems, strengthened internal processes, and continuously improved its operations to keep pace with market demands.

One of the company’s defining moments came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many MSMEs, Aiza’s Sweets faced operational disruptions and economic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the company chose to protect its workforce instead of resorting to layoffs. By sharing the burden across the organization, it preserved jobs, strengthened employee loyalty, and reinforced a workplace culture built on trust and shared responsibility.

Recognizing that people are at the heart of productivity, Aiza’s Sweets also embraced productivity improvement programs offered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – III (RTWPB – III).

Through capacity-building initiatives such as Improving Productivity through Employee Engagement, the company shifted toward a more participatory management approach that encourages employees to contribute ideas, solve workplace challenges, and take ownership of productivity improvements.

According to Lyra Amparo, Export and Compliance Officer of Aiza’s Sweets, empowering employees has transformed the company’s workplace culture.

“One of the core programs na gustong-gusto namin is yung employee engagement. This training empowers the employees. Gusto namin na ma-feel nila na part sila ng decision making kasi ultimately sila yung gumagawa ng products eh. Hindi naman kaya ng management lahat. You have to have inputs from the people na nandoon kasi mas alam nila yung more effective and more efficient way to do the products eh.” Amparo said.

The company’s commitment to continuous improvement opened doors to even greater opportunities with the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program (DOLE-AMP). Aiza’s Sweets received P404,000 worth of business enhancement assistance, including capability building on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) training. They were also given productivity equipment consisting of two laptops and a printer to help the company’s operational efficiency, and inventory management.

The enterprise’s productivity journey was further validated when it emerged as the 2025 Productivity Olympics Regional Winner, recognizing its commitment to workplace innovation, employee engagement, and productivity excellence.

Beyond its own success, Aiza’s Sweets continues to contribute to local economic development by sourcing ingredients from local suppliers, generating employment opportunities, and supporting community livelihoods. Its story demonstrates how MSMEs can create value far beyond their products by strengthening local supply chains and fostering inclusive growth.

Today, Aiza’s Sweets stands as a testament to what productivity means in practice. Its transformation from a backyard operation into an award-winning enterprise was not driven by expansion alone, but by a deliberate commitment to build better systems, empower its people, embrace innovation, and maximize government support programs.
