Going Digital, Going Smart: MSMEs Transform Through RTWPB II Training

ILAGAN, ISABELA — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – II, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Local Government Unit of Ilagan successfully conducted a training on “Smart Productivity: Transforming MSMEs Through Digital Innovation” on 14 May 2026, in the City of Ilagan, Isabela.

73 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from various business sectors operating in the city attended the training where they are equipped with practical knowledge and tools to improve productivity and competitiveness by embracing digital innovation, even at an introductory level. Participants were guided through the process of business transformation using simple, accessible, and cost‑effective technologies that can be readily adopted by small enterprises.

One of the key sessions, “AI for Digital Novice,” was delivered by Mr. Junel G. Soriano, Admin Assistant I, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) in a manner suitable for beginners. The lecture focused on demystifying AI concepts and demonstrating how basic AI‑enabled tools, including chatbots, automated responses, and digital content generators, can be used to support daily business operations, marketing, and customer engagement without requiring advanced technical skills.

Meanwhile, Mr. Francis Joseph M. Reyes, Information Technology Officer I, lectured on Smart Productivity, emphasizing how MSMEs can strategically improve efficiency and output by integrating digital tools into their existing processes. His presentation discussed the smart productivity framework, which highlights the alignment of people, processes, and technology to achieve sustainable productivity gains.

Participants are also led through a digital readiness assessment, enabling firms to evaluate their current level of digital capability, identify gaps, and determine appropriate digital solutions based on their resources and business goals. The session underscored that digital transformation does not necessarily require complex systems, but can begin with simple tools such as online platforms, digital payment systems, and basic data tracking.

In addition, representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Isabela Field Office discussed the DOLE – Adjustment Measures Program (DOLE – AMP) and General Labor Standards, highlighting government support available to enterprises implementing productivity improvement and innovation initiatives. MSMEs were encouraged to avail of DOLE AMP assistance and formally enroll their proposed digital innovation projects to help finance and sustain their transformation efforts.

The activity generated positive feedback from participants, who expressed increased confidence and motivation to adopt digital solutions in their businesses.

One of the participants, Ms. Jay‑anne Esquivel, owner of Lakay’s Unlimited Inasal, shared how the training inspired her to pursue digital innovation. “The training helped me realize that even simple digital tools can greatly improve our operations. I plan to introduce online ordering to better serve our customers and streamline our processes. I am also interested in applying for the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program to support our digital innovation project,” Esquivel said.

RTWPB-II reiterated its commitment to promoting smart productivity and digital transformation among MSMEs in the region, recognizing these as key drivers of business resilience, competitiveness, and inclusive economic growth. (Francis Joseph M. Reyes)
