CO-RBs assess 2018 performance, set 2019 targets

The NWPC and RTWPBs held its planning exercise on January 15-16, 2019 at Alta D’ Tagaytay Hotel in Tagaytay City with Undersecretary Ciriaco A. Lagunzad III and Executive Director Maria Criselda R. Sy presiding.

Speaking in behalf of Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, Undersecretary Lagunzad emphasized the role of the NWPC in responding to the clamor for wage increases and in promoting productivity improvement among MSMEs.

To describe the country’s socioeconomic outlook for 2019 and to provide guideposts in crafting the agency’s 2019 plans, NEDA Director Reynaldo R. Cancio presented an overview of the country’s macroeconomic performance for 2019; BSP Deputy Director Dennis M. Bautista presented the inflation expectation for 2019; DTI Undersecretary Ruth B. Castelo discussed the price levels and trends of basic commodities and strategies to ensure access to basic commodities; and DOF Assistant Secretary Ma. Teresa S. Habitan presented the status of tax reform efforts and impact of the second year implementation of TRAIN.

Undersecretary Lagunzad III led the discussion of policy and operational issues on minimum wage setting and productivity promotion such as on the conduct of public hearings and consultations, simplification of minimum wage structures, demand for a national minimum wage, exemption, minimum wage coverage and implications for workers in registered BMBes, among others.

Deputy Executive Director Jeanette T. Damo presented the 2019 NWPC Policy and Program Thrusts to address two (2) critical wage and productivity issues, low and stagnant real wage growth and low labor.
