NWPC Executive Director Maria Criselda R. Sy attended the Conference on the Future of Work in Taipei, Republic of China last September 3-5, 2019. It was organized by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), in cooperation with China Productivity Center (CPC) and attended by 35 participants from 14 APO member countries. The conference served as a platform to discuss current and emerging challenges of the future of work brought about by Industry 4.0 and the efforts that need to be undertaken to address climate change.

Among the learnings obtained from the conference, it is that the role of productivity in the future of work must be harnessed using digital technology as the main driver of change. MSMEs should be capacitated to take advantage of this platform to enhance their productivity performance. There is also a need to invest heavily in education and skills training of workers or talents to give everyone the maximize the opportunities of the future of work.

ED Sy plans to initiate the use of available digital platforms to ensure efficient communication and collaboration among NWPC’s different units. Moreover, ED Sy will initiate the development of modules that would incorporate digital productivity tools and technologies and to use them in helping to improve the productivity performance of MSMEs. She also plans to advocate the amendment of RA 6971 to establish a collaboration platform among agencies and organizations to develop a sustainable productivity improvement agenda for MSMEs.
