RTWPB II joins bamboo planting activity

RTWPB II joined LGU Tuguegarao City in celebration of the World Bamboo Day on September 18, 2021.LGU Tuguegarao designated a planting area for the RTWPB in the riverbank of Brgy. Linao. The City Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENRO)provided the bamboo propagules and planting paraphernalia.

Tuguegarao City is prone to widespread flooding due to river swelling. In the last quarter of 2020, the city experienced the worst flooding incident. Brgy. Linao, geographically low-lying, was one of the most affected area due to its proximity to the Cagayan River.Bamboo is an effective and inexpensive solution to river-bank erosion that contributes to the heavy siltation of the Cagayan River.

RTWPB2 and DOLE Region 2 are partners of LGU Tuguegarao in its Tuguegarao City One Million Trees Movement (TOMTM), a key solution to perennial flooding problems and in reducing the impacts of climate change. The office will ink a memorandum with the City LGU to ensure that the initiative will expand beyond tree planting to activities that will care for the planted bamboos.
