RTWPB-XIII, DOLE hold Araw ng Kasambahay celebration in Surigao City

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)–Surigao del Norte Field Office and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)–Caraga held the #ParaKayK 2026: Araw ng Kasambahay celebration in Surigao City.

Domestic workers from various barangays, Barangay Local Government Units, and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) joined the activity that aimed to strengthen protections for household workers, who play a vital role in Filipino homes yet often remain among the most vulnerable sectors of the labor force.

RTWPB-XIII Board Secretary VI Earl D. dela Victoria and Superivising LEO Mr. Cornelius Mahinay oriented the participants about Wage Order No. XIII-DW-06, which provides a ₱500 increase in the monthly minimum wage of kasambahays.

With this adjustment, domestic workers in the region are entitled to a minimum wage of ₱6,500 per month.

“After a series of public hearings and deliberations, the Board decided to increase the minimum wage of our domestic workers to ₱6,500 per month. We hope that this increase will bring help to you and your family,” BS dela Victoria said.

He also reminded employers and kasambahays to comply with existing labor standards under Philippine labor law, stressing that fair compensation must go hand in hand with respect for workers’ rights.

One participant expressed her hope that the newly issued wage order would translate into real improvements in the household and pledged to work hand in hand with the government to strengthen programs that safeguard the rights and dignity of the domestic workers.

BS dela Victoria likewise expressed his gratitude to DOLE – Surigao del Norte Field Office Head May C. Velonta for the continous partnership with RTWPB – Caraga in promoting awarenes, compliance, and full protection for domestic workers in the province.
