Tripartite Dialogue Takes Center Stage in Bohol Wage Consultation

September 4, 2026

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – Region VII (RTWPB – VII) convened a Minimum Wage Public Consultation on 20 August 2026 at the Bohol Bee Farm Hotel in Dauis, Bohol bringing together representatives from the labor, management, and government sectors to deliberate on wage issues affecting Central Visayas.

The consultation provided a platform for workers to voice their concerns over rising living costs and the need for just compensation, while employers emphasized the importance of sustaining business viability and competitiveness in the face of economic challenges.

Chairperson Atty. Roy L. Buenafe, representing the government sector in his capacity as Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Director emphasized that the wage-setting process is grounded in reliable data and evidence, while upholding transparency, inclusivity, and the principles of tripartism.

Mr. William Gamorot, union president of TACPEWA AWATU pressed for immediate wage relief, citing the rising cost of living and inflationary pressures in Central Visayas.

Employers on the other hand, emphasized that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of Bohol’s economy, particularly in tourism, agriculture, and services. They have warned that steep wage hikes could erode profitability, forcing some businesses to reduce operations or close, which would ultimately harm employment.

However, both sectors welcomed the initiative, noting that the dialogue strengthens collaboration among stakeholders and ensures that wage policies reflect both social justice and economic realities. The insights gathered during the consultation will form part of RTWPB ROVII’s deliberations in determining appropriate wage levels for the region. (Atty. Jess Russell F. Jumalon)
